A Retreat to Remember

Back in April Cicada Sounds was asked to work sound for a three-day wellness retreat that took place at the Marriott Resort on Hutchinson Island Florida. For those three days in April, Sarah and I were busy little cicadas setting up the sound systems, recording the guest speakers and instructors and playing live music.

Wendi and Eric Blum were the host and hostess of the retreat. To start, they picked the beautiful Marriott Resort on Hutchinson Island, which had great rooms and facilities. The conference room for the retreat featured a panoramic view of the Indian River Lagoon with sailboats lazily sailing by and dolphin’s fins occasionally breaking the water, so it was easy to forget the outside world. The hot tub seemed to be the big meeting place after a full day of activities where everyone would relax and unwind. Continue reading

About three weeks ago our friend Margarida Tree, owner of One Yoga Planet in Ft. Pierce, called us and asked if we could perform for a fund-raiser being held for a local Stuart man called Brother Judah. She shared that it was for helping a fellow musician and really cool guy pay for medical treatments for lung cancer. A while back I was looking for different types of flutes to start a music project. I did search for a while until I settled on some bamboo flutes made by this guy who called himself “Erik The Flute Maker,” at www.eriktheflutemaker.com .Out of the four I received from Erik. I found myself gravitating to the largest one. This flute was almost too big for my hands and only four finger holes and a thumb hole? Well not much options on notes, so I though. But when I began to play this flute, its deep tones had this way of putting me into a meditative state. I could feel the tone vibrate from my core. It was like my whole body was producing the note and not just the flute. That was when I decided to find out more about this large and simple flute. Continue reading
